Dublin City Council has allocated more than €44,500 for the redesign of its corporate logo, with plans to unveil the new branding in early 2026. The expenditure, confirmed following a query from Sinn Féin councillor Ciarán Ó Meachair, covers the costs of consultants and design teams across three phases.

The project is structured into distinct stages, each with its specific focus and financial commitment. The first phase, known as Brand Discovery, aimed to assess the current brand’s application within the council and identify potential improvements. This initial analysis incurred a cost of €8,250.

In the second phase, termed Brand Design, the focus shifted to the creation of new brand assets. This included a fresh logo, typography, color palette, and additional graphic elements, costing €15,500. The final stage, Brand Suite and Asset Development, is set to commence this month and will concentrate on developing a comprehensive suite of branded materials and guidelines. This phase is projected to cost €20,750.

Community Response to Logo Change

Cllr Ó Meachair expressed concerns regarding the need for such an investment in a logo, stating, “I am in contact with dozens of constituents every day and not one single person has ever called for a change to the city council logo.” He highlighted pressing issues facing Dublin, such as housing, waste management, and maintenance of public roads and footpaths, suggesting that taxpayers may be dissatisfied with the allocation of funds toward a logo redesign.

He criticized the decision, stating, “If the council really felt a logo change was needed, it could have been done in-house by a DCC public relations team for much less money.”

As part of the overall effort, a communications plan is also being developed to align with the third phase. This will support the formal rollout of the refreshed branding in the first quarter of 2026.

Dublin City Council has been approached for further comment regarding the redesign and the associated costs.
