Anthony Boyle Causes Laughter and Chaos on House of Guinness Set

In a lighthearted revelation, actor Anthony Boyle admitted to leaving “producers raging” during the final day of filming for the upcoming Netflix series House of Guinness. Boyle, who portrays the family patriarch Arthur Guinness in the period drama set during the 1860s, shared insights about his antics on the set, which were marked by a unique celebration.

During an appearance on The Late Late Show with Patrick Kielty, Boyle disclosed that he arranged for a Guinness truck to arrive on the last day of shooting on September 25, 2023. Intended to coincide with the wrap-up at 18:00, the truck arrived early, leading to a few distractions among the crew. “There are a few scenes in the show where the cameras are all over the place because some of the boys were absolutely steaming,” he remarked with a chuckle. “The producers were raging, but it was good craic.”

House of Guinness, written by Steven Knight, creator of Peaky Blinders, explores the complex and often tumultuous history of the renowned Guinness dynasty. The series portrays the family as they navigate their rise to prominence amidst a backdrop of power and excess. Boyle’s character, Arthur, is depicted grappling with his identity in a time when being gay was perilous.

Boyle elaborated on Arthur’s struggles, noting that his character’s interests lie more in “s****ing fellas, drinking Guinness and having the craic in London,” yet he must maintain a façade of heterosexuality to manage the brewery. “At that time, if you were gay, you got about 20 years hard labour, so it was essentially a death sentence,” he explained. To shield himself from societal consequences, Arthur enters into a marriage of convenience.
