Limerick Welcomes Bualadh Bos Children’s Festival This October

The Bualadh Bos Children’s Festival will return to Limerick from October 1 to 11, 2023, offering an exciting lineup of theatre, dance, music, film, workshops, and community events. Celebrating its 11th year, the festival aims to engage young audiences and their families, making it a significant highlight in Limerick’s cultural calendar.
Festival curator Liam McCarthy emphasized the importance of this event, stating, “The Bualadh Bos Children’s Festival represents a unique two weeks in Limerick’s cultural calendar. It is a special time when we prioritise our city’s younger citizens, as well as their carers and their families.” This year, the festival is focused on inclusivity, with a diverse programme featuring dance, theatre, film, and music.
Community Engagement
A notable aspect of this year’s festival is the extensive engagement with schools and local communities. One highlight will be a special appearance by Laureate na nÓg, Patricia Forde, who is set to participate in various events. The festival is also shaped by the insights of the Bualadh Bos Children’s Panel, a group of young people who collaborate closely with McCarthy. Their involvement ensures that children’s voices are integral to the programming, bringing creativity and fresh perspectives to the event.
The festival will feature a range of activities suitable for all ages. Among the highlights is a film screening by artists Michael Fortune and Aileen Lambert, showcasing “Revisiting the Banshee,” which includes stories told by children from St. Mary’s School and Thomond Primary School in Limerick. Additionally, festival favourite Anna Newell will present her new immersive theatre experience, “Shimmer,” aimed at the youngest audiences.
The festival will also include “The Lonesome Boatman,” a folk-inspired family journey presented by Ouch Productions and Colm O’Grady. With activities designed for babies, older children, and teenagers, the Bualadh Bos Children’s Festival promises to provide entertainment and enrichment for all.
For those interested in attending, the full programme of events and booking information can be found at www.limetreebelltable.ie. As Limerick gears up for this vibrant celebration, families can look forward to an unforgettable experience centered around the creativity and imagination of children.
