Robbie Williams Set to Pay Tribute to Joe Dolan at Croke Park Gig

Robbie Williams has received approval from the family of Irish music icon Joe Dolan to tribute his hits during a highly anticipated concert at Croke Park on March 15, 2024. Williams is set to perform in front of an audience of approximately 80,000 fans, a testament to his enduring popularity and the excitement surrounding the event.
The connection between Williams and the Dolan family runs deep. Ben Dolan, Joe’s brother and a saxophonist who toured with him for decades, expressed his enthusiasm for the tribute. “I can tell Robbie you have permission from me and all the Dolan family,” Ben stated. “We’d be thrilled if Robbie pays tribute to Joe again in Croke Park.” Although Ben will miss the concert due to prior commitments, he conveyed his full support for Williams to honor his late brother.
This isn’t the first time Williams has paid homage to Joe Dolan. During his last concert in Ireland at Aviva Stadium in 2017, he performed the beloved hit “Good Looking Woman,” which resonated powerfully with fans. “It was so much fun singing ‘Good Looking Woman’,” Williams remarked. He recalled the electric atmosphere when he invited the audience to join in for a memorable sing-along, stating, “The place went off. It was a proper moment I’ll never forget.”
Ben Dolan, now 91, continues to perform with Joe’s original backing band, showcasing the enduring legacy of his brother’s music. He humorously offered Williams advice on maintaining a long career: “No drink. No smokes and, most of all, get back home to your bed after every single show.”
Despite his age, Ben remains passionate about music and will be performing at a venue in Killarney on the night of Williams’ concert, which prevents him from attending the Croke Park show. “So having been up half the night Friday, we’ll spend most Saturday in bed so none of the Dolans will be in Croke Park to see Robbie play,” he explained.
Anticipation for the concert includes an acoustic set where Williams will perform in front of the crowd. He plans to deliver a revamped version of his hit “Candy” and incorporate a unique segment involving artificial intelligence, where he interacts with an 80-year-old version of himself.
Speculation surrounds the possibility of a surprise guest performer, with fans hoping for a special Irish star to join Williams during the show. However, Ben expressed skepticism about anyone matching the talent of his late brother. “Forget it. I’m not saying these other singers can’t sing. But what they’re singing is chicken feed compared to Joe,” he remarked, emphasizing Joe’s unparalleled stage presence.
As the excitement builds, limited tickets are still available for the concert, which promises to be a memorable night celebrating the legacy of Joe Dolan through the artistry of Robbie Williams. The event is expected to be not just a concert, but a heartfelt tribute to a legend cherished by many.
