Anna Haugh Steps In as MasterChef Host Following Gregg Wallace’s Dismissal

UPDATE: Irish chef Anna Haugh has been announced as the new host of MasterChef for the final episodes of the current season, following the dismissal of long-time presenter Gregg Wallace due to serious allegations of misconduct. This urgent change comes after an internal inquiry by production company Banijay, which revealed that 83 complaints had been lodged against Wallace, with over 40 upheld, including accusations of unwelcome physical contact.
Haugh, originally from Tallaght, Co Dublin, has nearly 20 years of professional cooking experience, having trained at the Technological University Dublin. She has worked alongside culinary icons like Gordon Ramsay and Philip Howard. Currently, she owns the acclaimed Myrtle Restaurant in Chelsea, London, and has appeared as a guest judge on various BBC cooking shows, including MasterChef itself.
The announcement was confirmed by a spokesperson for BBC, stating that Haugh will take over for the final week of this year’s competition. This comes in light of Wallace stepping down after multiple historical complaints surfaced during the show’s filming, which is currently airing.
Earlier this month, BBC News reported Wallace’s exit followed a detailed inquiry into the allegations against him. Despite his claims of being cleared of the “most serious and sensational allegations,” the situation has raised significant concerns about the work environment within the program.
Haugh has already made waves in the culinary world, recently hosting her own series, Anna Haugh’s Big Irish Food Tour, where she showcased the rich culinary heritage of Ireland. Her appointment as host is seen as a move to restore confidence in the MasterChef brand amid controversy.
WHAT’S NEXT: As viewers prepare for the final episodes, Haugh’s leadership will be closely watched. The impact of these allegations on the MasterChef franchise remains to be seen, with fans eager to see how the show evolves under her guidance.
The BBC has stated that continuing to air the show is “the right thing to do” for the contestants involved. Viewers can expect a fresh perspective from Haugh, who is poised to lead the competition with her extensive knowledge and passion for cooking.
Stay tuned for more updates as this situation develops.
