Ed Sheeran Stuns Wexford Fans with Surprise Pub Performance

BREAKING: Global superstar Ed Sheeran shocked fans in Wexford with a surprise performance at the renowned Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann 2025 on August 5. Taking a break from his sold-out ‘Mathematics’ tour, Sheeran lit up the stage at traditional Irish pub The Sky and The Ground, leaving attendees in awe.
This unexpected appearance comes as Sheeran returns to his roots, a place that holds deep significance for him. Growing up, he frequently visited Wexford to connect with family and friends. Recently, he expressed his fondness for Ireland on The Louis Theroux Podcast, stating, “We’d spend all of our holidays in Ireland. My first musical experiences were in Ireland.”
In addition to Sheeran, the stage was graced by other talented Irish musicians, including Beoga, Biird, Amble, and Aaron Rowe. This special performance adds to Sheeran’s series of ‘Old Phone’ pop-ups, which have taken place in various locations, including Coachella and his hometown of Ipswich.
Caolán Barron, a representative from the Barron family-run pub, expressed excitement over hosting the singer: “We’re delighted to welcome Wexford-man Ed Sheeran to The Sky and The Ground during The Fleadh Cheoil 2025. We’ve the spare room made up for him, and my mother has made him a chicken curry in case he needs feeding—all thanks to our closer partner Guinness for making it possible.”
As he wraps up the ‘Mathematics’ era, Sheeran prepares to release his new album, ‘Play’, on September 12. This album marks a new chapter for the artist as he dives into fresh musical territory, influenced by his experiences and collaborations around the globe.
Reflecting on his upcoming work, Sheeran shared, “Play was an album that was made as a direct response to the darkest period of my life. I just wanted to create joy and technicolour, and explore cultures in the countries I was touring.”
The emotional depth and cultural exploration in ‘Play’ promise a vibrant showcase of Sheeran’s artistry, blending traditional sounds with innovative styles. This surprise performance in Wexford not only highlights his connection to Ireland but also serves as a reminder of the joy and creativity that fuel his music.
Fans eager to experience more of Sheeran’s playful spirit can look forward to exciting events leading up to the album’s release. “I just want everything I do to be fun and playful,” he stated, hinting at more surprises to come.
