Kilkenny’s Tholsel Bar Set to Reopen Soon After Major Renovation

UPDATE: The Tholsel Bar, a beloved pub in the heart of Kilkenny City, is on the brink of reopening its doors following significant renovations. This iconic establishment, known as the ‘Rugby Pub’ of Kilkenny, has been a central gathering spot for sports fans and locals alike.
After a period of closure, the Lawlor family, who has owned the bar for years, submitted a planning application to Kilkenny County Council in 2023. The council granted conditional approval for the renovations in June 2023. As part of the ongoing work, the bar area is undergoing minor updates, while the three upper floors are being converted from residential use to short-term letting accommodations.
The renovations aim to enhance the pub’s atmosphere and provide additional lodging options for visitors to Kilkenny, a city renowned for its vibrant culture and sports scene. With the completion of these renovations expected shortly, residents and fans are eager to see the revitalized Tholsel Bar.
As support builds within the community, the Tholsel Bar’s reopening is expected to attract a surge of customers, bringing life back to this historic venue. This development not only highlights the resilience of local businesses but also promises to boost the local economy as tourism continues to rebound.
Stay tuned for more updates as we await the official reopening date of the Tholsel Bar. Don’t miss the latest developments in Kilkenny’s thriving pub scene!
