Limerick’s Eleanor O’Brien Shines at Newport Beach Film Festival
URGENT UPDATE: Limerick actor Eleanor O’Brien has arrived in California to represent Ireland at the prestigious Newport Beach Film Festival, showcasing the Irish language film Báite. The festival, which champions original storytelling from around the globe, is currently taking place and O’Brien’s participation highlights a significant moment for Irish cinema.
Speaking exclusively to the Limerick Leader, O’Brien expressed her excitement about the breathtaking surroundings of Newport Beach, describing it as “extremely beautiful” and “steeped in luxury.” She shared her unforgettable experiences, including a luxurious brunch on a yacht and visiting the iconic locations where the Oscars are filmed.
“This feels closer to things being possible for me,” O’Brien remarked, reflecting on the inspiring connections she made with industry professionals during the festival. She emphasized the importance of networking, stating, “It was really about making connections and meeting people, and getting a sense of who people are and how they work.”
The festival has been welcoming to its Irish guests, with O’Brien noting, “The whole team were really good at making all of the Irish feel extremely welcome.” She found it particularly moving to hear American attendees speaking Irish, reinforcing the film’s significance in promoting the language.
To support her artistic journey, O’Brien recently launched a GoFundMe campaign aimed at raising funds for her tuition at the Oxford School of Drama. She expressed gratitude for the financial backing that made her trip possible, provided by organizations including Danú Media, Screen Ireland, Coimisiún na Mean, and TG4.
O’Brien traveled to California as part of a dedicated Irish contingent, which included the film’s director and writer. “It was absolutely fantastic and so amazing that they were able to support us to go over. It was a huge effort and we couldn’t do any of this without them,” O’Brien stated.
As the Newport Beach Film Festival continues, O’Brien’s journey serves as a beacon of hope and inspiration for aspiring artists everywhere, showcasing the potential of Irish talent on a global stage.
