UPDATE: Derry is bracing for an influx of over 120,000 visitors as Europe’s largest Halloween festival kicks off this week. Organizers urge attendees to plan ahead and consider public transport due to anticipated road closures and parking restrictions.

The festivities run until Thursday, October 31, 2025, culminating in the spectacular Carnival Parade and Fireworks finale on Friday. Local authorities are implementing necessary measures to ensure public safety and minimize disruptions throughout the city.

Motorists are warned of potential delays and diversions in Derry’s City Centre leading up to Halloween night. Jacqueline Whoriskey, Festival and Events Manager with Derry City and Strabane District Council, emphasized the importance of following guidelines from event stewards and the PSNI (Police Service of Northern Ireland) to maintain safety during the celebrations.

In anticipation of the high volume of attendees, Translink will operate additional public transport services on Halloween night, connecting the city with surrounding areas. Residents and visitors are encouraged to take advantage of these services to ease congestion.
