UPDATE: A critical weather warning has just been issued for parts of Ireland as Met Éireann forecasts a chaotic Halloween night. From 7 PM to 10 PM tonight, several counties will experience intense thunderstorms and heavy rain, creating hazardous conditions for trick-or-treaters.

According to Met Éireann, a storm front is set to sweep across the country, bringing with it lightning strikes and torrential downpours. The warning impacts the counties of Carlow, Kilkenny, Wexford, Wicklow, Cork, and Waterford, where officials are urging residents to prepare for sudden flooding and difficult travel.

In a stark update, the national forecaster reported, “A cloudy start tonight with rain moving northeastwards across the country, heavy and possibly thundery across Munster and Leinster.” As the rain subsides, expect a mix of clear spells and lingering showers from the Atlantic.

With temperatures hovering between 5°C and 8°C and moderate to fresh southwesterly winds, the conditions will significantly impact Halloween festivities. Parents are advised to keep a close watch on the weather as the storm approaches.

Residents may already hear distant rumbles as the storm intensifies, leading to potential disruptions for children out seeking candy. The warning represents a significant safety concern, as the expected heavy rains may create spot flooding in low-lying areas.

Looking beyond Halloween, Met Éireann indicates that this unsettled weather pattern is likely to continue, with low pressure dominating the weekend forecast. “Low pressure will bring unsettled and mixed conditions,” officials stated.

For Saturday, the forecast predicts a bright but breezy start with isolated showers, particularly along the Atlantic coastal areas. However, by the afternoon, showers will become more frequent and heavier, with a possibility of hail. Temperatures are expected to range from 9°C to 12°C.

Saturday night is predicted to be mostly dry, but temperatures will drop to between 3°C and 7°C with light to moderate winds. Sunday will bring a wet and windy evening, with widespread rain expected, especially over the western half of the country, and temperatures remaining mild at 12°C to 14°C.

As the weather unfolds, residents are encouraged to stay updated with the latest forecasts and prepare accordingly. For those planning Halloween outings, now is the time to make adjustments to ensure safety amid the storm.
