Zelenskiy Urges Strong US Response to Russia Amid Ongoing Attacks

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy has called for a decisive reaction from the United States if Russian President Vladimir Putin refuses to engage in direct negotiations. Zelenskiy’s remarks came as Ukraine faced a wave of intense drone and missile assaults overnight, raising concerns over the ongoing conflict that began with Russia’s full-scale invasion in February 2022.

In a briefing with reporters in Kyiv, Zelenskiy expressed readiness for dialogue, stating, “I responded immediately to the proposal for a bilateral meeting: we are ready. But what if the Russians are not ready?” His comments underscore the urgency for international support as the situation escalates. He added, “If the Russians are not ready, we would like to see a strong reaction from the United States.”

In a missile strike on a US electronics manufacturer in Mukachevo, at least one individual was killed and 15 injured, with significant damage reported to the facility. Local authorities confirmed that this civilian site was not related to military activities, a point underscored by Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha, who condemned the strike on X, stating, “A fully civilian facility that has nothing to do with defense or the military.”

In addition to the attack in Mukachevo, a drone strike in the western city of Lviv resulted in one death and injuries to three others, along with damage to 26 homes. Governor Maksym Kozytskyi provided updates on the civilian toll and the extent of the damage. The Ukrainian Air Force reported the use of 574 drones and 40 missiles in the overnight offensive, marking it as the most significant attack so far this month.
