Police Warn Businesses in Strabane About Counterfeit £20 Notes
Local police in Strabane have issued a warning to businesses regarding the circulation of counterfeit £20 notes. The alert, announced on September 14, 2025, comes as authorities report an increase in incidents involving fake currency, prompting concern among retailers and vendors in the area.
The Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) has advised business owners to be vigilant when accepting £20 notes. They recommend inspecting banknotes carefully and being aware of the security features designed to prevent counterfeiting. This proactive approach aims to protect local businesses from potential financial losses.
In a separate but related development, Heather Humphreys, a prominent political figure, recently launched her campaign to become the next President of Ireland. She has promised to make Áras an Úachtaráin more accessible to the public. Humphreys’ bid comes amid rising concerns about economic issues, including the cost of living and housing prices, which have been significant topics in the community.
Another incident causing concern in the region involves a tragic accident in Carlow, where a cyclist in their 20s lost their life following a crash. Local officials are urging the public to drive safely and be mindful of cyclists, as road safety continues to be a pressing issue.
The police are also investigating the recent arrest of a man in connection with a tragic event in Creeslough, who has since been released without charge. This development has raised questions about community safety and the ongoing investigations in both the Creeslough tragedy and the counterfeit case.
Local representative MacLochlainn expressed concerns regarding the unsustainability of rent increases in Donegal. His remarks reflect a broader sentiment among residents facing rising living costs.
As these events unfold, local businesses and residents are urged to stay informed and vigilant to safeguard their communities against both financial and physical dangers. The PSNI continues to encourage anyone with information regarding counterfeit notes or other safety concerns to come forward.
