Dublin Named One of the World’s Top Cities for Festive Cheer
Dublin has earned recognition as one of the best cities worldwide to experience the festive season, according to a recent ranking by the prestigious travel magazine, Condé Nast Traveller. In its 2025 round-up, the magazine highlighted the Irish capital as a prime destination among 28 cities for Christmas celebrations, citing its unique blend of pubs, shopping, and festive activities.
The publication noted that Dublin’s charm lies in its vibrant atmosphere during the holiday season. “If your idea of Christmas merriment includes an authentic Irish pub crawl, then Dublin is your place,” stated the magazine. Visitors can expect to warm up on chilly December nights with traditional meals such as black pudding and a selection of local beers, with an abundance of cozy bars that can carry them through to the New Year.
Dublin’s festive offerings extend beyond its pubs. The city boasts a variety of Christmas markets, beautifully decorated shops along Grafton Street, and enchanting tree-lighting ceremonies. One of the highlights mentioned in the article is the Moving Crib located in the basement of St. Martin Apostolate, which has delighted families for over 66 years with its charming mechanical figures depicting scenes like Noah’s Ark.
For visitors seeking a luxurious experience, Condé Nast Traveller recommended staying at The Westbury, which transforms into a winter wonderland during the holidays. The hotel offers stunning views of the Grafton Street lights while guests enjoy traditional afternoon tea, enhancing the festive atmosphere.
As Christmas Day approaches, Dublin’s festive spirit is palpable. One local pub, The Oarsman, has embraced the season with an impressive holiday makeover. Located in the heart of Ringsend, the establishment has been transformed into a winter wonderland, adorned with twinkling lights, cozy garlands, and handmade decorations.
Co-owner Tom Bohan expressed the pub’s commitment to creating a magical atmosphere for its patrons. “We really wanted to bring something special to Dublin this Christmas. The community means everything to us, and creating a magical atmosphere for our guests is our way of celebrating the season together,” he stated. Bohan emphasized that the goal is for every guest to feel the Christmas cheer as soon as they step through the door.
As Dublin continues to prepare for the festive season, the combination of its rich traditions, lively atmosphere, and community spirit positions it as a must-visit destination for holiday travelers seeking a memorable experience.
