Alan Gallagher Takes Helm as New Director of Aviva Stadium
Alan Gallagher has been appointed as the new stadium director for the Aviva Stadium, following a decision by the Irish Rugby Football Union (IRFU) and the Football Association of Ireland (FAI). Gallagher will take over from David French, who will conclude his tenure at the end of December 2023 after serving just over two years. Vincent Murphy will serve as interim director until Gallagher officially begins his role in early March 2024.
Gallagher brings a wealth of experience to this position, having previously served as the director of operations at the Convention Centre in Dublin. He also held the role of head of stadium operations at Croke Park, one of Ireland’s most iconic venues. His appointment comes at a pivotal time, as the Aviva Stadium prepares to host seven fixtures during the Euro 2028 tournament, including a quarter-final match.
In a statement, IRFU Chief Executive Officer Kevin Potts praised Gallagher’s “strong track record in delivering world-class events and outstanding visitor experiences.” Similarly, FAI Chief David Courell highlighted Gallagher’s extensive experience in the sports and entertainment sectors.
Expressing his enthusiasm for the new role, Gallagher stated, “It is a great privilege to be appointed as stadium director for Aviva Stadium. This venue has earned an international reputation for excellence, and I am committed to building on that success as we look to the future.” He emphasized his intent to enhance the experience for all users of the stadium, strengthening its position as a premier destination for both sports and entertainment.
Gallagher’s background and vision are expected to play a vital role in further elevating the Aviva Stadium’s profile on the international stage. As the venue gears up for significant events in the coming years, his leadership will be instrumental in maintaining the high standards that have made the stadium a beloved location for fans and athletes alike.
