Una Healy Issues Urgent Warning About Fake Accounts Targeting Fans
UPDATE: Popstar and presenter Una Healy has urgently warned her fans about a wave of fake social media accounts impersonating her, putting innocent people at risk of scams. In a heartfelt message on Instagram to her 674,000 followers, the Tipperary native revealed that “imposter” accounts are reaching out to her fans, claiming to be her and offering private chats.
Healy stated, “I’ve done it before…so basically there are these fake accounts going around on Facebook saying they’re me. They claim this is my private account and you can chat to me here.” She emphasized the danger of these scams, especially with the rise of AI technology that can make interactions seem authentic.
“I don’t really know what fake me is saying,” Healy continued, expressing her concern for those who might be led to believe they are communicating with her. “Innocent people then are getting trapped or could be getting scammed. It is frightening.”
She urged her followers to be vigilant, stating, “Everybody should have a verified account; that’s all I have. I don’t have any private accounts to chat to people, I never have and I never will. Please block and report any imposter accounts you see.”
Healy’s warning resonates with a broader trend affecting celebrities online. Fellow Irish star, Daniel O’Donnell, faced similar issues earlier this year, urging fans to ignore false claims about his health circulated by scammers. O’Donnell reassured his followers, “I am just doing a wee message to let you know that I’m feeling very well. I have seen a few pictures leading people to believe that I’m in hospital, very unwell, and those are fake.”
The rise of digital impersonation highlights the urgent need for social media platforms to improve verification processes. Fans are advised to report suspicious accounts immediately to safeguard themselves and others.
As scams become increasingly sophisticated, both Healy and O’Donnell’s experiences serve as stark reminders of the potential dangers lurking online. Stay alert and protect your digital presence by only engaging with verified accounts.
