Ireland Confirms Christmas Payment Schedule for Social Welfare Recipients
The Department of Social Protection in Ireland has issued a revised schedule for social welfare payments during the Christmas season. As the festive period approaches, recipients should be aware that certain payments will be made earlier than usual due to anticipated closures of banks and post offices.
In the week leading up to Christmas, which falls on December 25, social welfare claimants typically receive a double payment. This adjustment is intended to accommodate the closure of financial institutions during the holiday period. According to the department, individuals receiving weekly social welfare payments will receive their regular payment during the week commencing December 15, 2023, along with an advance payment for the following week.
The department further confirmed that a similar adjustment will take place ahead of January 1, 2024, as most financial services will be unavailable on New Year’s Day.
Key Details for Recipients
Payments that are usually delivered at post offices, by cheque, or directly deposited into bank accounts will follow this adjusted timetable. Those receiving casual or part-time jobseeker’s payments are encouraged to submit any required documentation in advance to ensure continuity of support throughout the holiday season.
If you are receiving income support from the Department of Social Protection, it is essential to inform the department about any planned absences before traveling. This can be done by visiting your local Intreo Centre or Branch Office.
The Department has also released information regarding the operational hours of Intreo Centres, PPSN Centres, and PSC Centres during the holidays. These centres will be available for inquiries between 10:00 and 16:00 daily, except on December 25, December 26, and January 1. Regular hours will resume on January 2, 2024.
For immediate assistance, individuals can contact the Department via phone at 0818 405 060 or 0818 607 080 for Community Welfare Services. Email inquiries can be directed to [email protected].
Applying for Income Support
Those seeking to apply for income supports can do so conveniently online at www.MyWelfare.ie. The online platform is designed to expedite the application process, making it accessible for users throughout the holiday season.
As the festive period approaches, ensuring that social welfare payments are received on time will provide essential financial support to many individuals and families in Ireland. The Department of Social Protection remains committed to providing timely information and assistance to ensure that recipients are adequately supported during this busy season.
