CLIA RiverView Conference Launches in Amsterdam Amid Industry Shifts
The CLIA RiverView Conference commenced on March 18, 2024, in Amsterdam, bringing together agents and river cruise suppliers from around the world. With the backdrop of ongoing conflicts in the Middle East, participants expressed a mix of concern and optimism, maintaining that operations should continue as usual while navigating through the current uncertainties.
During the conference, some suppliers reported nearly a 50% reduction in bookings last week. However, a slight recovery was noted over the weekend, with many in the industry hopeful that business will return to normal levels by the end of next week. The consensus seems to hinge on the absence of significant changes in the geopolitical climate.
Andy Harmer, along with the CLIA team, officially opened the event. The first day featured a series of sessions designed to educate and engage attendees. Topics included “New to Cruise,” “Tips to Close a River Cruise Sale,” “Longhaul Including the Nile,” and “Lesser Known Rivers.” These discussions aimed to equip agents with the necessary tools to enhance their sales strategies and broaden their knowledge of river cruising.
Networking and Industry Insights
The afternoon was packed with trade sessions, allowing suppliers to showcase their offerings. Notably, APT Travel Marvel stood out by providing cocktails to participants, reinforcing their commitment to creating a memorable experience.
Dinner was graciously hosted by Vicky Billing, Director of Trade and Partnerships at Riveria Cruises, who welcomed Lorraine and others aboard the ship Geoffrey Chaucer for an overnight stay. Such gatherings serve to strengthen relationships within the industry, fostering collaboration and support among agents and suppliers.
As the conference progresses, attendees are scheduled to visit several notable vessels, including Emerald Luna, Riverside Debussy, Ama Serena, and TUI Maya. Each visit presents a chance to explore the latest innovations in river cruising and to discuss future business opportunities.
Excitement Builds for Avalon Closing Party
Anticipation is growing for Avalon’s closing party, which is set to take place tomorrow. It will be hosted by Phil Shipman and features participation from up to 20 agents from Ireland. This event is expected to be a highlight of the conference, promising networking opportunities and lively discussions.
As the event unfolds, further updates and photographs will be shared, showcasing the vibrant atmosphere and the valuable insights gained throughout the conference. With industry professionals committed to adapting and innovating during challenging times, the CLIA RiverView Conference reinforces the resilience and dynamism of the river cruise sector.
