Salesforce to Implement Job Cuts at Dublin Headquarters
American cloud software company Salesforce is set to reduce its workforce at its Irish base, although the specific number of job cuts remains undisclosed. On Tuesday, the company submitted a collective redundancy notification to the Department of Enterprise, in accordance with the Protection of Employment Act 1977. This legislation requires companies with over 300 employees to notify the department when planning to make more than 30 staff redundant. Salesforce currently employs over 2,500 people in Ireland.
In a recent statement, Marc Benioff, CEO of Salesforce, announced plans to decrease the company’s customer support staff from 9,000 to approximately 5,000. This move aligns with the company’s strategy to enhance its reliance on artificial intelligence. “I was able to rebalance my headcount on my support. I reduced it from 9,000 heads to about 5,000 because I needed fewer heads,” Benioff explained during an appearance on the Logan Bartlett Podcast.
Salesforce’s European Presence
Salesforce has maintained its European headquarters in Dublin since 2000. This strategic location has allowed the company to expand its operations across the continent. As of early 2025, Salesforce employs around 76,000 people globally, reflecting its significant growth in the tech sector. The decision to cut jobs in Ireland comes amid ongoing changes in the business landscape, particularly in the technology industry.
The Irish Examiner has reached out to the Department of Enterprise for further comments regarding the redundancy notification. As Salesforce navigates its evolving business model, stakeholders will be watching closely to see how these changes affect the local workforce and the wider technology community in Ireland.
