Gareth Sheridan Moves Closer to Presidential Ballot in Ireland

Independent candidate Gareth Sheridan is advancing in his quest to secure a position on the presidential ballot for next month’s election in Ireland. On Tuesday, October 10, 2023, he received the nomination from Tipperary County Council, following a nomination from Kerry County Council the previous week. To officially enter the presidential race, he requires nominations from a total of four local authorities. Sheridan is scheduled to present to the members of Carlow County Council this Friday.
Despite lacking a traditional political background, Sheridan has emerged as a prominent figure in the entrepreneurial landscape. He is the founder of Nutriband, a pharmaceutical company established in 2014, which earned him the title of Ireland’s ‘Young Entrepreneur of the Year’ that same year. Nutriband also received accolades for ‘Best New Product’ in Ireland.
In addition to his business ventures, Sheridan has contributed as a mentor through 100 Minds, a social enterprise focused on uniting top college students in Ireland to raise funds for charitable causes. After founding Nutriband, he spent seven years living in the United States but has since returned to Dublin, where he lives with his wife, Heidi, and their two-year-old daughter, Róe.
Financially, Sheridan’s net worth is estimated at approximately €16 million in Nutriband shares and €500,000 in savings. He owns a family residence in Utah and a rental property valued at $2,700 per month. Currently, he rents a two-bedroom apartment in Dublin for €3,000 monthly.
At 36 years old, Sheridan aims to become the youngest candidate ever to be included on a presidential ballot in Ireland. If elected, he intends to follow in the footsteps of former presidents Mary Robinson, Mary McAleese, and Michael D. Higgins, particularly in advocating for social justice. Sheridan has emphasized his intention to remain independent from the political establishment, arguing that a truly independent president should not be tied to traditional political affiliations.
As he continues to gather support and navigate the nomination process, Sheridan’s unique background and entrepreneurial success may resonate with voters seeking a fresh perspective in Irish politics.
