South Dublin Family Home Transformed Through Thoughtful Renovation
A family in south Dublin has successfully transformed a five-bedroom property by merging two residences into one cohesive home. The family initially collaborated with interior designer Moya Farrell on a different property but opted to sell that home in favor of a larger space that better suited their needs. With four children, the additional square footage was essential for their growing family.
Upon acquiring the new property, the family discovered that it required substantial renovations. “There was a significant amount of renovation to be done,” Farrell stated. The house had previously been divided into a family home and a granny flat, which limited its usability for the family. To enhance the overall functionality, Farrell worked closely with an architect throughout the entire design process.
The renovation involved removing the granny flat and consolidating the two living spaces, resulting in a much larger footprint. This transformation allowed for the creation of a spacious kitchen at the heart of the home, accompanied by a stylish dining and living area that enhances family interactions. The design also included larger, airy bedrooms, offering a comfortable environment for the children.
“The family ended up with a much bigger space and they have the most beautiful garden as well, which now features a charming summerhouse,” Farrell noted. The project emphasized bespoke joinery that provides custom storage solutions, adding both functionality and craftsmanship to each room.
A custom-designed kitchen by David and Michael Farrell became the practical yet aesthetically pleasing focal point of the home. High-quality furnishings and finishes were carefully selected to ensure durability, accommodating the demands of daily family life while maintaining a refined appearance.
The end result is a warm, contemporary home that supports the dynamic lifestyle of a family with children while boasting timeless style. The design seamlessly integrates modern elements with a welcoming atmosphere, making it an ideal space for both relaxation and entertainment.
