Joe Joyce has been named the new Lifeboat Operations Manager (LOM) at Lough Swilly RNLI, taking on a role that reflects his extensive commitment to maritime safety and community service. A resident of Clonmany, Joyce brings over 20 years of experience at the lifeboat station, having previously served as a sea-going crew member, Lifeboat Press Officer for 17 years, and Deputy Launch Authority for 10 years.

Extensive Experience and Community Commitment

Throughout his tenure, Joyce has also held the position of Lifeboat Training Co-ordinator, where he was responsible for creating and managing training schedules. This allowed the volunteer crew to develop and maintain essential competencies for both sea-going and shore-based roles. His deep involvement in the station underlines a steadfast commitment to the safety of both the crew and the broader community.

Upon his appointment, Joyce expressed his gratitude and enthusiasm for the new role, stating, “It’s a privilege to take on the role of Lifeboat Operations Manager here at Lough Swilly. This station has a proud tradition of service, built on the unwavering dedication of our volunteer crew and the quiet strength of their families.”

Joyce emphasized the significance of each launch, training session, and call-out, viewing them as a testament to the commitment of the volunteers. He acknowledged the vital support from families, particularly thanking his wife, Bridgita Joyce, who also serves as a crew member. “Together, we understand the level of sacrifice and support that’s required at home to keep this station operational,” he said. “It’s a shared commitment that runs through many families here, and it’s what makes this lifeboat station such a special place.”

Support from the Crew

The crew at Lough Swilly RNLI has voiced their support for Joyce’s new role, asserting that his appointment is a natural progression. “Everyone at the station is delighted that he has accepted the role,” they stated. Joyce’s leadership is expected to enhance the already high standards of readiness and lifesaving service at the station, further contributing to the safety of the community.

As the new Lifeboat Operations Manager, Joe Joyce is poised to lead a dedicated team of volunteers committed to their mission of saving lives at sea. His extensive experience and deep community ties will undoubtedly play a vital role in the ongoing success of Lough Swilly RNLI.
