Portsalon Swimmers Celebrate 5th Swim in Pink with Live Piper
UPDATE: Portsalon swimmers are in high spirits after a festive event yesterday, October 14, 2023, as they celebrated the fifth anniversary of the nationwide Swim in Pink for breast cancer awareness. The highlight of the day was the presence of renowned Donegal Piper, Christy Murray, who piped the participants into the water, enhancing the celebratory atmosphere.
This annual event, hosted by the Portsalon 10 O’Clockers, saw participants brave the chilly waters while raising crucial funds for a cause that deeply resonates with many. The weather was unexpectedly kind, providing a perfect backdrop for this impactful swim.
After their invigorating dip, swimmers gathered onshore to enjoy delicious treats including cupcakes, apple tart, and custard. The sense of community was palpable, with organizers expressing gratitude to everyone involved in making the morning a success. “Christy on the pipes ensured there was a festive spirit at the pier for us,” they stated.
So far, the Portsalon group has raised nearly €1,500, with donations still welcome online. Contributions can be made at https://swiminpink.ie/team/portsalon-10-o—clockers5437. This event not only promotes health awareness but also fosters community spirit, drawing together participants from various backgrounds for a shared cause.
The Swim in Pink initiative has been instrumental in raising awareness about breast cancer, encouraging early detection and support for those affected. As the fundraising continues, the Portsalon 10 O’Clockers are determined to surpass their previous totals and make an even larger impact this year.
Looking ahead, the community is excited about future events, hoping to engage more participants and raise awareness about breast cancer. This event serves as a reminder of the strength that comes from unity and the importance of supporting health initiatives.
