University of Limerick Student Secures Prestigious Tax Scholarship
A student from the University of Limerick, Sophie Hartigan, has been awarded the 2025 Irish Tax Institute Third-Level Scholarship. The announcement was made during a ceremony held in Dublin on November 20, 2023, where Shane Wallace, President of the Irish Tax Institute, presented the award. This scholarship, valued at €5,000 annually, is designed for students who have completed their Leaving Certificate and aspire to pursue a career in tax advisory.
The scholarship not only provides financial assistance but also guarantees a spot in the esteemed Chartered Tax Adviser (CTA) programme upon completion of the student’s initial degree. This program offers dedicated mentoring and support from the Irish Tax Institute, significantly enhancing the educational experience for recipients.
Expressing her gratitude, Sophie stated, “I’m really delighted to win this scholarship which will support me in my studies. As well as the financial support to help me with some of the costs of going to university, I am really excited with the ongoing mentorship and guidance opportunities available to me which will make college life that bit easier.”
This accolade reflects Sophie’s dedication and hard work, qualities that were acknowledged by Shane Wallace during the ceremony. He remarked, “In winning this scholarship, Sophie has proven not only her academic achievements but has also demonstrated her hard-working ethic and determination in pursuing a career in tax advisory. The scholarship signals our confidence in the contribution Sophie will make to Ireland’s tax profession in the years ahead, and the Institute will continue to support Sophie on her educational journey.”
The Irish Tax Institute established this scholarship to encourage and support future professionals in the tax advisory sector. By investing in students like Sophie, the Institute aims to foster a new generation of tax experts who will contribute to the industry and the broader economy.
As Sophie embarks on this new chapter at the University of Limerick, she joins a community dedicated to excellence in education and professional development. Her achievements serve as an inspiration to other students pursuing careers in specialized fields. The Irish Tax Institute’s commitment to nurturing talent is evident in the ongoing mentorship and resources they provide to scholarship recipients, ensuring they are well-prepared for the challenges of their future careers.
