A family syndicate from Cavan has won an impressive €17 million in the EuroMillions jackpot, marking a significant milestone for the region. The winning ticket was purchased at a Lidl store on the Athlone Road on December 12, 2023.

The fortunate winners consist of a father, son, and daughter from Cavan town. According to a report in the Anglo-Celt, the family expressed their excitement through a statement released by their solicitor, James M Donohoe & Company. They described their feelings as being “over the moon” upon realizing they had won the life-changing prize.

The ticket remained unchecked for several days after the draw until news circulated that a local winner had emerged. It was only scanned in Cavan town after the draw, and the family secured it overnight in a local bank for safekeeping. The three family members subsequently signed the back of the ticket before reaching out to the National Lottery headquarters to initiate the claim process.

A spokesperson for the National Lottery confirmed to The Journal that the family has successfully made contact with the prize claims team. Arrangements are now being finalized for the syndicate to collect their winnings.

This win represents the second EuroMillions jackpot claimed in Ireland this year, following a staggering €250 million prize awarded in July. The Cavan syndicate’s victory adds to the string of recent lottery successes in the area, highlighted by a local player winning €1 million in the Daily Million draw at the end of November.
