Russell Brand Charged with New Sexual Offences Ahead of Trial

Comedian and actor Russell Brand faces new legal challenges as he has been charged with two additional sexual offences, including one count of rape. Brand, age 50, previously faced serious allegations involving four women, with charges that include two counts of rape, one count of indecent assault, and two counts of sexual assault related to incidents occurring between 1999 and 2005. He has denied these charges at Southwark Crown Court earlier this year.

The latest charges were announced by the Metropolitan Police and the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS), detailing one count of rape and one count of sexual assault concerning two further women. These alleged offences took place in 2009. Brand is scheduled to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on January 20.

The accusations against Brand include a serious allegation of orally raping a television industry worker and another incident where he allegedly grabbed her breasts. Detective Chief Inspector Tariq Farooqi, who leads the investigation, emphasized the continued support available for the women involved. He stated, “The women who have made reports, including those connected to the two new charges, continue to receive support from specially trained officers.”

Other charges in the original five include allegations of physical assault against a radio station worker, where Brand reportedly pushed her against a wall and groped her.

These recent developments follow an investigation by Channel 4 and the Sunday Times, where multiple women came forward with allegations against Brand, prompting the police inquiry.
