Curragh Athletic Football Club Secures €77,000 for EV Chargers

Curragh Athletic Football Club, located in Killygordon, Donegal, has become the first sports club in Ireland to receive funding from the Shared Island Sports Club EV Charging Infrastructure Scheme. On December 24, 2025, the club was awarded €77,000 from the Department of Transport to support the installation of electric vehicle chargers at their existing sports and community facility.

The Shared Island Sports Club EV Charging Infrastructure Scheme aims to promote sustainability and encourage the use of electric vehicles across sports clubs in Ireland. Curragh Athletic was one of five clubs in Donegal assessed by an independent panel for suitability to receive this funding.

In addition to the EV charging infrastructure, Curragh Athletic is also in the process of enhancing their facilities. Plans for upgrading existing floodlights are nearing completion, and the project will include retrofitting windows and doors. The total cost for these improvements is expected to exceed €180,000, with grants of €155,133 already secured from both the Sports Capital Programme and SSE.
