Two Arrested as Gardaí Seize €800,000 in Drugs and Cash

BREAKING: Two men have been arrested in Cork as Gardaí seize over €800,000 worth of drugs and cash during a significant operation. The arrests took place following extensive searches on December 30, 2023, in the Douglas area, where authorities uncovered €700,000 of suspected cocaine, €60,000 of cannabis, and over €40,000 in cash.

The suspects, aged in their 30s and 40s, were detained under the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act 1996 and are set to face a special sitting at Cork District Court on January 2, 2024. This crackdown is part of a larger initiative by Gardaí aimed at dismantling drug trafficking networks across the country.

In a follow-up operation on December 31, the Garda National Drugs & Organised Crime Bureau (GNDOCB) conducted further searches in the Dublin 14 area, resulting in the seizure of an additional 0.5 kg of cannabis valued at around €9,000 and €4,000 in cash. The drugs are currently undergoing analysis by Forensic Science Ireland.

Authorities confirm that investigations are ongoing, highlighting the critical nature of Operation Tara, which aims to disrupt and prosecute drug trafficking operations at all levels.
