Trump Defends Daily Aspirin Use Amid Health Scrutiny
Former US President Donald Trump has publicly defended his daily use of aspirin, asserting that his health remains “perfect” despite questions surrounding his well-being. In an interview with the Wall Street Journal, Trump revealed that he consumes a higher dosage of aspirin than recommended, which he claims helps to thin his blood. The 79-year-old politician acknowledged that this practice has led to him bruising easily, yet he remains steadfast in his approach, stating, “I want nice, thin blood pouring through my heart.”
Trump’s comments come at a time when both he and current President Joe Biden are under scrutiny regarding their health. Recently, Trump faced criticism after being seen with what appeared to be makeup on his hand and displaying signs of fatigue during public appearances. His health has been a topic of discussion, particularly following an incident in December when he appeared drowsy at a cabinet meeting.
In the same interview, Trump described his daily routine, stating that he begins work early in the White House residence before transitioning to the Oval Office around 10:00 hours. He typically works until 19:00 or 20:00 hours and has adjusted his schedule at the behest of his staff to focus on fewer, more significant meetings. Additionally, he mentioned spending time at his estate in Mar-a-Lago over the Christmas and New Year period as part of a strategy to manage his workload.
Trump’s health is a sensitive subject, particularly in light of Biden’s reported decline in vitality, which has spurred allegations of a cover-up by senior aides. In his remarks, Trump expressed frustration that his team has not promoted his health more vigorously, insisting, “My health is perfect.”
While discussing a cardiovascular screening he underwent in October 2023, Trump expressed regret over the attention it garnered. He stated that he would have preferred not to have the advanced imaging scan, which was initially mischaracterized by the White House as a CT scan. “In retrospect, it’s too bad I took it, because it gave them a little ammunition,” he noted.
Dr. Sean Barbabella, Trump’s physician and a captain in the US Navy, affirmed to the Wall Street Journal that Trump is in “exceptional health” and well-equipped to fulfill his duties as commander-in-chief. An AI analysis of Trump’s electrocardiogram indicated a cardiac age of 65, suggesting he is in good condition for his age.
Although Trump acknowledged trying compression socks to alleviate swelling in his legs, he stated that he found them uncomfortable and has since stopped using them. He admitted to not engaging in regular exercise beyond playing golf, describing traditional workouts as “boring.” He attributed his energy levels to genetics, emphasizing, “Genetics are very important, and I have very good genetics.”
As health remains a pivotal issue in politics, Trump’s statements serve not only to reassure his supporters but also to address the growing concerns about the health of senior political figures. His insistence on his well-being reflects a continued effort to maintain a strong public image as he navigates the complexities of political life at an advanced age.
