Ambiente Friendly, a notable contender who previously finished second in the Derby, is set to make his mark in the world of hurdling at Plumpton on the afternoon of March 25, 2024. The race, featured live on Sky Sports Racing, is the Legendary Jimmy James 90th Birthday Novices’ Hurdle, where Ambiente Friendly will face off against eight rivals.

In his earlier career, Ambiente Friendly was a standout on the Flat, peaking with a rating of 107 and securing a runner-up position behind City Of Troy at Epsom in 2024. Following that performance, he was the 6/4 favourite in the Irish Derby but was ultimately defeated by the talented Los Angeles. Now transitioning into hurdles, he is participating in his fourth race over obstacles and currently holds a rating of 118, which is only 11 points higher than his previous peak on the Flat.

His hurdling journey includes a victory at Huntingdon, where the performance was further validated by the second-placed horse, Wondering Why, who won at Lingfield just last Monday. This development adds a layer of intrigue to Ambiente Friendly’s chances as he approaches this race.

Challengers and Notable Entries

Among the competitors, Looping d’Arc stands out as an interesting runner. With only three previous starts, he has demonstrated potential, debuting at Newbury in November. There, he finished behind Bass Hunter, who has since enjoyed success with a strong performance at Ascot in a Listed bumper. Following up with a solid win at Southwell on his hurdling debut, he faced challenges at Hereford, where he ran out after hanging left. A return to a left-handed track at Plumpton could play in his favor.

At 14:00 at Hereford, the competition heats up with Big Ticket and Draco Malfoy set to clash in the Easter Monday Family Fun Raceday Novices’ Hurdle, where a prize of £5,446 is up for grabs. Both horses have shown promise, but Draco Malfoy currently holds the edge in experience, having raced five times under rules. His notable performance includes a win at Huntingdon in December, securing a victory by over three lengths, with subsequent wins by both the third and fourth-placed horses adding weight to his credentials.

Big Ticket arrives at Hereford after a series of hurdle starts without success, though his form tells a more complex story. His second-place finish at Ascot was particularly impressive, as the winner has since finished fifth in the Grade One Challow Hurdle at Newbury. After a pull-up at Ascot due to an overreach wound, he aims to return to form and could present a significant challenge to Draco Malfoy if he regains his previous fitness.

Eupator’s Quick Return to Wolverhampton

In a separate event, Eupator is making a swift return to Wolverhampton for the Midnite A Next Generation Betting App Handicap at 19:00 after a commanding victory just three days prior. Previously struggling on the all-weather circuit, he showcased improvement with a recent second-place finish to Tommy’s Promise, who ranked fifth in December’s horse of the year standings. Eupator triumphed over the same course and distance with a rating of 69, and now, with an increase to 76, he faces only a 5lb penalty, effectively making him 2lb well-in for this race.

Monty Beau, the second highest-rated horse in this event, comes off a third-place finish at Chelmsford after being raised 3lbs for a previous win over the same course and distance in December. As the races unfold, all eyes will be on these horses as they seek to establish their dominance on the track.
