€11 Million Lotto Win Sparks Excitement in Co Mayo Shop
A shop in Co Mayo has made headlines after selling a winning Lotto ticket worth an astonishing €11,101,286 during the first draw of 2026. The ticket was purchased at Kelly’s Mace, located at the Circle K Service Station on Mulranny Road in Newport. This win marks a significant moment for both the shop and the local community.
The shopkeeper, Michael Kelly, expressed his shock and delight upon receiving the news from the National Lottery. He stated, “The first thing our National Lottery Rep said to me was, ‘are you sitting down?’ I was completely shocked when I got the call since it’s not the type of news you hear every day.” Kelly emphasized that the shop, which has been in operation for over 30 years, has been a staple in the community, serving both locals and visitors alike.
As the local excitement builds, Kelly noted, “There’s great excitement here in-store amongst staff, and I’m sure our customers will be thrilled too when news spreads. We wish the winner all the very best with their win!” The National Lottery has confirmed that the lucky winner has already reached out to them, and arrangements are being made for the prize collection at Lotto headquarters.
Co Mayo’s Lucky Lotto History
Co Mayo has a reputation for being a lucky county when it comes to Lotto wins. Previously, it was home to the largest jackpot ever recorded, worth €19.06 million, which was won in 2022. Last year, a family syndicate from the same region won over €17 million after purchasing their ticket online.
According to Sarah Orr, a spokesperson for the National Lottery, “It’s been a huge week for the West with a Lotto player in Mayo becoming the first jackpot winner of the year to date.” She added that while this latest win is significant, the region is no stranger to substantial Lotto victories.
The continued success of Lotto players in Co Mayo suggests a trend of fortune in the area, and celebrations are expected to continue throughout the weekend as the community marks this latest achievement. The excitement surrounding this win illustrates the impact such events can have on local businesses and the community as a whole. As news of the win spreads, both the shop and its customers look forward to the joyous celebrations that lie ahead.
