New Service Launched to Support Farm Succession in Limerick
A new initiative aimed at enhancing farm succession planning has been launched in Limerick. The Farm Forward Succession & Generational Renewal Service is now operational, following an informative session held at the Deebert House Hotel in Killmallock. The event focused on critical topics such as farm succession, wills, and future planning, providing valuable insights for farmers and their families.
The Farm Forward initiative, titled “Connecting Generations and Farming for the Future,” is designed to assist farmers, farm families, and those looking to enter the agricultural sector. It encourages proactive planning for succession, diversification, and the long-term sustainability of family farms.
Prominent speakers at the event included Amanda Slattery, development manager with Ballyhoura Development, James O’Donnell, chair of the Irish Creamery Milk Suppliers Association (ICMSA) and member of the Ballyhoura Development board, Carrie O’Donoghue, a Farm Forward Succession & Generational Renewal coach, and Jacquelyn Dunne, a solicitor at Dunnes Solicitors. Each speaker emphasized the importance of early engagement, open dialogue, and access to reliable professional advice when planning for the future of family farms.
“This informative talk series is informed by, and responding directly to, very real needs emerging through the Farm Forward service,” O’Donoghue stated. “The strong attendance and engagement clearly demonstrate the level of support farmers and farm families are seeking.”
The next series of informative talks under the Farm Forward banner will address Taxation and Collaborative Farming Arrangement options, further equipping attendees with the necessary tools for effective farm management.
Farmers interested in accessing the Farm Forward Succession & Generational Renewal Service can schedule appointments at any of the Ballyhoura Development offices located in Kilfinane, Kilmallock, Mitchelstown, Charleville, and Cappamore. This initiative marks a significant step in addressing the challenges faced by the farming community and fostering sustainable agricultural practices in the region.
As agriculture continues to evolve, the support provided by programs like this is essential for ensuring the viability and continuity of family-run farms in Limerick and beyond.
