Paul Mescal has shared an unexpected revelation about his role as Paul McCartney in the upcoming Beatles biopic directed by Sam Mendes. The film, highly anticipated by fans, will consist of four separate movies, each focusing on one member of the legendary band. Mescal is set to portray McCartney, with Harris Dickinson as John Lennon, Joseph Quinn as George Harrison, and Barry Keoghan, who is also Irish, as Ringo Starr.

Despite missing out on a Golden Globe for his performance in the acclaimed play Hamnet, Mescal has been preparing extensively for his new role. He revealed that he has met McCartney several times, describing him as “an extraordinary man.” Similarly, Keoghan has reached out to Ringo Starr for insights into his character.

One of the most surprising aspects of Mescal’s announcement is that he will be singing as McCartney in the biopic. This marks a significant departure for the actor, who has not previously undertaken a musical role. Mescal’s decision stems from his experiences while playing Shakespeare in Hamnet. He expressed his excitement in a recent interview with PEOPLE magazine, stating, “It’s like a wild privilege to get to play these creative forces and to get a peek behind the curtain.”

Future Projects and Personal Reflections

With the buzz surrounding the Beatles biopic growing, Mescal has also discussed his desire for a break from the public eye. He shared his excitement about spending the next two years focused on filming rather than engaging in promotional tours. “I would really lose my mind if I took two years off out of my job,” he commented. “But what I’m excited about is the concept of not being on a promotional tour for the next two years. And I think it’ll give people a welcome break from seeing my face.”

He humorously added that he looks forward to “laying down for as long as possible,” acknowledging his struggle with the need to stay busy.

Though Mescal’s schedule remains packed, the release date for the Beatles biopic is set for April 2028, extending the wait for eager fans. In addition to this project, Mescal is also involved in Richard Linklater’s film Merrily We Roll Along, which is ambitiously set to shoot over a span of 20 years, with a tentative release date around 2040.

As anticipation builds for both the Beatles project and Mescal’s upcoming performances, fans are left eagerly awaiting the opportunity to witness his portrayal of one of music history’s most iconic figures.
