Santa Truck Brings Festive Cheer to Kilkenny’s Yulefest

The arrival of the Santa Truck in Kilkenny marked a vibrant start to the annual Yulefest, supporting the Laura Lynn charity. On the weekend of December 2-3, 2023, over a thousand enthusiastic runners took to the streets along the Medieval Mile, while families enjoyed a packed program of free music, entertainment, and a bustling Christmas market.

The heart of the city buzzed with locals and visitors celebrating the festive season. Trade at the Christmas markets was brisk, with attendees sampling various food offerings, including hot apple juice, locally brewed beers, hot chocolates, and an array of festive treats. The markets featured a delightful mix of local crafts, food products, and art, with stalls lining the Mayor’s Walk and the Made in Kilkenny store. Shoppers also explored the surrounding streets, supporting local boutiques and gift shops.

Musical Highlights and Upcoming Events

The Yulefest Live Music Stage showcased a variety of performances, with popular bands such as The Pinsetters and Southern Fold captivating the audience. Traditional music and dance were provided by Whiskers of Lichen and the Kilkenny Academy of Irish Dancing. Emerging local talent was represented by the Music Generation Project, ensuring a diverse range of entertainment for all ages.

The excitement continues as the upcoming weekend promises more festive activities. Artistic events include Christmas craft workshops and Santa plate painting at the historic Shee Alms House. Additionally, the annual fundraising Santa Run will take place in Castle Park on Sunday morning, featuring various local musical acts such as the Spink Comhaltas group and the Craobh Osraí CCE, alongside performances from The Raindogs, Cois Nore Choir, and O’Connor Music.
