Taylor Swift and Blake Lively’s Text Messages Unsealed in Lawsuit
Text messages exchanged between singer Taylor Swift and actress Blake Lively have been made public as part of Lively’s ongoing lawsuit against actor Justin Baldoni and his production company, Wayfarer. The lawsuit stems from allegations of sexual harassment that occurred on the set of the 2024 film It Ends With Us.
Lively, 38, initiated legal action against Baldoni, 41, in December 2024. The situation escalated when Baldoni filed a counter lawsuit seeking $400 million (€348 million) against The New York Times for publishing details about Lively’s complaint. This counterclaim was dismissed by a US judge last November after Baldoni failed to meet a deadline to proceed with the case.
The unsealed text messages, now part of the public court record, reveal a candid exchange between Swift and Lively, highlighting their enduring friendship. In one message, Swift refers to someone believed to be Baldoni as a “bitch.” Although Swift’s last name is omitted in the texts, her full name appears in the associated court documents.
Lively expressed concerns about her privacy in the messages. “I’ve become digitally paranoid. I don’t know if you experienced that with phone calls after what happened to you, but after the thousands of text messages that weren’t meant for me that I’ve been reading, I’ve internalized that everything digital may be public,” she wrote to Swift.
Friendship and Struggles Amid Legal Turmoil
The conversation between the two friends also touched on the emotional toll of the legal proceedings. Lively acknowledged the impact of her experiences on her mental state, stating, “This fucking guy and what he did to me gave me an identity crisis. Legitimately.” She expressed feeling betrayed by those she considered allies, saying, “The thing that spooked me most in all this though, wasn’t the bad guys being bad guys, it was the good guys, my lifelong friends – allies to women – who quietly dipped.”
Swift responded with empathy, noting that their communication had changed. “It’s felt like I was reading a mass corporate email sent to 200 employees. You said the word ‘we’ like 18 times. And it feels awful to be in any way critical of any way you process what you’ve been going through, but I just kinda miss my funny, dark, normal-speaking friend who talks to me as herself,” she shared.
In another exchange, Swift sent Lively a screenshot from PEOPLE magazine regarding Baldoni, who claimed to have a “sexually traumatising history.” Swift remarked, “I think this bitch knows something is coming because he’s gotten out his tiny violin,” referring to Baldoni’s public statements.
Lively and Swift also discussed Baldoni’s recognition at the Vital Voices for Women event, where he was set to receive a solidarity award, which was later rescinded in December 2024. Swift expressed her disgust at the situation, stating, “This is so disgusting and I hate that he’s clever about this shit.” Lively added, “Can you imagine feeling as confident as these predators that you’re going to always get away with it?”
Upcoming Trial and Ongoing Legal Battle
The unsealed messages paint a vivid picture of the personal struggles faced by Lively as she navigates the complexities of her lawsuit. The trial is scheduled to begin in May 2025, and none of the parties involved have publicly commented on the recently released documents.
This case has attracted significant media attention, with fans and followers closely watching the developments surrounding Lively and Baldoni. As the legal proceedings unfold, the revelations from these text messages provide a glimpse into the private struggles of two prominent figures in the entertainment industry.
In a landscape where public and private lives are often intertwined, Lively’s lawsuit against Baldoni is a stark reminder of the challenges faced by individuals navigating allegations of misconduct in the workplace. As the trial approaches, the implications of this case will likely resonate beyond the courtroom, revealing deeper issues related to accountability and the treatment of women in the industry.
