Una Healy Launches New Country Music Competition on Late Late Show
Irish singer Una Healy made headlines on February 9, 2024, during her appearance on RTÉ’s Late Late Show, where she introduced an exciting new music competition aimed at discovering Ireland’s next country music star. Healy’s announcement comes as country music continues to gain traction across the nation, reflecting a growing interest in the genre.
Healy joined host Patrick Kielty for a night filled with entertainment, which also featured notable guests such as former Irish international rugby player Andrew Trimble, podcasting duo Kevin Twomey and PJ Kirby, as well as comedian Tom Allen. The show included live performances and shared heartwarming stories from First Dates Ireland, all in anticipation of Valentine’s Day.
During her segment, Healy spoke passionately about her new initiative, encouraging aspiring singers to submit their videos for a chance to compete in the upcoming competition. She emphasized the importance of authenticity in performances, stating, “We’re looking for someone who’s a great singer, wants to perform, wants to be an artist, but hasn’t had the opportunity or platform to get out there.”
Entrants are invited to send in videos of themselves singing an original song or a cover, with a strict guideline against using autotune or other enhancements. “We want it to be completely raw and organic,” she noted. The deadline for submissions is March 17, 2024, and shortlisted contestants will get the opportunity to showcase their talents during rehearsals and performances scheduled for April 16 and 17, 2024.
As the competition unfolds, Healy will serve as a judge on the show, aiming to find a standout artist who demonstrates originality and passion. The winner will earn the chance to appear on the Late Late Show Country Special, further elevating their profile in the music industry.
Healy’s commitment to nurturing new talent aligns with the increasing visibility of country music in Ireland, a genre that has seen a surge in popularity in recent years. Her role in this competition not only supports emerging artists but also highlights the evolving musical landscape in the country.
With the deadline for submissions approaching, Healy’s initiative presents an exciting opportunity for aspiring musicians to make their mark in the competitive world of country music.
