Residents of Donegal are being called upon to donate blood this week, as the Irish Blood Transfusion Service (IBTS) reports critically low stocks. The service has organized several clinics in the region to facilitate donations and increase blood supply.

Paul McKinney, Director of Services and Logistics at the IBTS, highlighted the impact of recent adverse weather conditions, which have significantly reduced attendance at donation clinics. He reassured potential donors that the donation process is straightforward and painless, urging those who may have concerns about needles not to let fear deter them from participating.

Clinic Schedule for Blood Donations

The IBTS has set up the following clinics in Donegal:

– **Monday, February 9, 2026**: Inishowen Gateway Hotel, Buncrana, from 18:30 to 21:40
– **Tuesday, February 10, 2026**: Inishowen Gateway Hotel, Buncrana, from 14:30 to 17:10 and 19:00 to 21:40
– **Wednesday, February 11, 2026**: Community School, Carndonagh, from 14:30 to 17:10 and 19:00 to 21:40
– **Thursday, February 12, 2026**: Community School, Carndonagh, from 14:30 to 18:40

These clinics are critical in replenishing blood stocks, which are essential for medical treatments and emergency situations. The IBTS encourages everyone who is eligible to consider donating, as every contribution can make a significant difference in saving lives.

Importance of Blood Donation

Blood donations are vital for numerous medical procedures, including surgeries, trauma care, and treatment for chronic illnesses. With stocks currently low, the need for donations is more pressing than ever.

Community response is crucial in this effort, and local residents are encouraged to spread the word and bring friends or family along to donate. McKinney emphasized that the IBTS is committed to ensuring a safe and comfortable environment for all donors.

Individuals interested in donating can check eligibility requirements on the IBTS website or contact local health services for more information.
