Trump Discusses Health Concerns and Medication Choices in Interview
In a recent interview with The Wall Street Journal, United States President Donald Trump addressed ongoing concerns regarding his health, revealing details about his medication regimen and sleep habits. This comes in the wake of public scrutiny following photographs showing bruised hands and swollen ankles, which have raised questions about his well-being.
Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt previously attributed Trump’s bruising to “frequent handshaking.” However, Trump disclosed that he takes a higher dosage of aspirin—325 mg daily—than typically recommended for his age group, which is generally 81 mg. He explained, “I’m a little superstitious… I want nice, thin blood pouring through my heart. Does that make sense?” His choice to self-medicate with aspirin, he claims, has contributed to the bruising.
In discussing his appearance, Trump admitted to using make-up to cover up bruises, stating, “I have make-up that’s, you know, easy to put on, takes about 10 seconds.” Alongside aspirin, his doctor, Navy Captain Sean Barbabella, confirmed that Trump also takes medications for cholesterol management, including rosuvastatin and ezetimibe, and uses mometasone cream for a skin condition.
Sleep Patterns and Diet
Trump, who is the oldest individual to serve as President of the United States, also shared insights into his sleep patterns. He indicated that he does not sleep much, often communicating with aides as late as 02:00. “I’ve never been a big sleeper,” he remarked, denying allegations of dozing off during meetings. He clarified, “Sometimes they’ll take a picture of me blinking, and they’ll catch me with the blink.”
His diet has long been a topic of discussion, characterized by a preference for fast food, including burgers and fries. Trump noted that he does not partake in extensive exercise outside of playing golf, stating, “To walk on a treadmill or run on a treadmill for hours and hours like some people do, that’s not for me.”
Political Context and Troop Deployments
In addition to his health comments, Trump addressed the deployment of federal forces in major U.S. cities such as Chicago, Los Angeles, and Portland. He announced plans to withdraw National Guard troops but warned that federal forces would return if crime rates increased. Local officials and Democratic leaders have criticized these actions, claiming they represent federal overreach.
Trump’s statements regarding troop deployments come at a time when legal challenges have arisen against his administration’s actions. A recent ruling from the U.S. Supreme Court blocked Trump’s attempt to deploy National Guard troops in Illinois, undermining his justification for similar actions in other states. With ongoing tensions over crime and federal presence, Trump’s health and decisions remain closely scrutinized as he continues his presidency.
The interview reflects Trump’s ongoing engagement with the public and media about his leadership and personal choices, emphasizing the intersection of health, politics, and public perception.
