Heritage Organisations Support Fund Now Accepting Applications
The Heritage Organisations Support Fund is now open for applications, offering financial assistance to not-for-profit organisations in the heritage sector. This initiative, managed by the Heritage Council, aims to support projects that enhance the preservation and promotion of cultural heritage across the region.
The fund enables organisations to cover essential costs such as staff salaries, rent, hiring new personnel, and investing in training and skills development. It also encourages innovative approaches to heritage management and preservation. Applications can be submitted through the Heritage Council’s online grants management system until 17:00 on January 26, 2026.
Eligibility and Previous Support
In 2025, the Heritage Council successfully supported two heritage organisations based in County Donegal: the Brian Friel Trust and the Inishowen Maritime Museum. Each organisation received funding of up to a maximum of €50,000. According to Joseph Gallagher, Heritage Officer, these grants play a crucial role in sustaining and advancing heritage initiatives.
To qualify for funding, applicants must demonstrate regional or national significance and show how their proposed activities align with national policies and plans. This emphasis on relevance ensures that funded projects contribute meaningfully to the broader heritage landscape.
For those interested in applying, detailed eligibility criteria and application guidelines are available on the Heritage Council’s website at www.heritagecouncil.ie.
Support Resources for Applicants
To assist potential applicants, the Heritage Council has provided a recorded webinar that offers insights into the application process. This resource can be accessed at www.heritagecouncil.ie/funding/heritage_orgs-fund.
Additionally, further assistance is available through the County Donegal Heritage Office. Interested parties can reach out via email at [email protected] or by calling (074) 917 2576.
This funding scheme represents an important opportunity for heritage organisations to secure vital support, fostering the preservation of cultural resources and enhancing community engagement with heritage.
