Limerick Producers Shine at Blas na hÉireann Food Awards

Limerick producers have marked a significant milestone this year by securing nine finalist spots at the prestigious Blas na hÉireann awards. This annual event celebrates the best in Irish food and drink, highlighting the quality and variety of local offerings. The awards will take place from October 2 to 5, 2025, in Dingle, where these local producers will showcase their products.
The finalists represent a diverse selection of businesses from the Limerick area, including notable producers such as Ballyhoura Apple Farm, Cook & Cleaver, Coqbull, Cornstore, Cotter Organic Lamb, Emerald Ice Cream, Glen Aine Foods, Kearney’s Home Baking, and Twomey’s Bakery.
Mike Cantwell, of Limerick Local Enterprise Office (LEO), expressed his pride in the representation of local businesses. “We are delighted to see that Limerick has nine worthy finalist producers in the Blas na hÉireann awards this year, showcasing the fantastic array of locally produced food and drink available in Limerick,” he stated.
Commitment to Growth
Cantwell emphasized the commitment to sustainable growth in the food sector within Limerick city and county. “We are dedicated to expanding the food sector in a sustainable manner, adding to the comprehensive range of food and drinks already produced,” he noted, referencing the recently published Food and Drink Producer Directory.
The Blas na hÉireann awards have been running for 18 years and have become a benchmark for excellence in the Irish food industry. This year, the event has received over 3,000 entries, marking the largest number of submissions to date. A record number of new producers have also entered, enhancing the competition and diversity of products.
The awards have expanded to include 190 categories, with notable growth in areas such as alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages. The judging process, which took place over May, June, and July, involves blind tasting by a panel of experts, including chefs, buyers, academics, and industry leaders.
As the awards weekend approaches, anticipation grows for the Blas Village and the Eat Ireland in a Day market, which are set to take place alongside the awards ceremony. This gathering not only provides a platform for Limerick’s producers but also celebrates the rich culinary heritage of Ireland, bringing together food enthusiasts from across the nation.
The Blas na hÉireann awards continue to play a crucial role in recognizing and promoting the best of Irish food and drink, with Limerick’s producers poised to make a strong impact this year.
