Limerick’s Eddie Scanlan Honored for Dedication to Farmers

Eddie Scanlan, a dedicated advocate for farmers from Clarina, has been awarded honorary life membership by the Irish Farmers’ Association (IFA) at the organization’s annual general meeting in Limerick. The presentation was made by IFA president Francie Gorman, who recognized Scanlan’s extensive contributions to the farming community.

Louise Crowley, chairperson of Limerick IFA, expressed her delight in honoring Scanlan, stating, “Eddie has given outstanding service to Limerick IFA and the wider Irish Farmers’ Association over many years, and it is fitting that he is recognised with this award.” She highlighted his commitment to advocating for farmers’ interests at various levels, ensuring that critical issues were addressed with determination.

Throughout his tenure with the IFA, Scanlan has held multiple roles, including chairman of Limerick IFA. Notably, he organized a significant tractor protest through Limerick city in 2012 in response to plummeting milk prices, leading the demonstration in his vintage tractor. His activism exemplified his dedication to the farming community during challenging times.

“Eddie has been a strong advocate for practical, common-sense farming policy,” said Crowley. “He brings an informed voice to discussions, whether at meetings, consultations, or engagements with public representatives and officials.” His efforts have consistently aligned with the core values of the IFA: commitment, integrity, fairness, and solidarity with farm families.

Crowley concluded her remarks by emphasizing the lasting impact of Scanlan’s dedication on Limerick IFA and its members. “We are proud to award honorary life membership to Mr. Scanlan in recognition of his longstanding service, leadership, and dedication.”

This accolade reflects the IFA’s appreciation for individuals like Scanlan, who work tirelessly to support and uplift the agricultural community, ensuring that their voices are heard and their needs addressed.
