Presentation Secondary School Celebrates 225 Years of Educational Legacy
Presentation Secondary School in Kilkenny recently commemorated a remarkable milestone, celebrating its 225th anniversary of educational service to the community. The event took place within the newly completed school building, highlighted by a Presentation Day Mass attended by students, staff, and members of the Presentation Sisters.
This year’s celebration held particular significance as it not only marked a long-standing educational tradition but also honored the legacy of the school’s founder, Nano Nagle. The Mass was presided over by Monsignor Dan, alongside Fr Scriven and Fr Paul, who provided thoughtful reflections on Nagle’s commitment to education and social justice. Their messages resonated deeply, emphasizing the ongoing impact of the Presentation tradition in today’s educational environment.
Honoring Tradition and Achievement
The ceremony was a dignified occasion, filled with uplifting moments that underscored the enduring values of the Presentation ethos. Attendance included numerous Presentation Sisters, such as Sr Kathleen, Sr Maura, former principal of Presentation Primary, Sr Margarita, former principal of Presentation Secondary, and Sr Helen, among others. Their presence served as a poignant reminder of the generations that have devoted themselves to fostering faith, learning, and opportunity for young people in Kilkenny.
As part of the celebration, the school formally recognized the academic achievements of its students. Awards were presented to those who attained the highest grades in the Leaving Certificate and Junior Certificate examinations. This acknowledgment of excellence not only celebrated the students’ hard work but also highlighted the dedication of the staff who support them throughout their educational journey.
The recognition of these accomplishments was particularly fitting, reflecting the school’s commitment to excellence, compassion, and service—values that have been central to the Presentation mission for over two centuries.
Continuing the Legacy
The anniversary celebrations served as both a reflection on the past and a reaffirmation of the school’s mission moving forward. The event not only commemorated the rich history of Presentation Secondary School but also inspired current students and faculty to carry forward the legacy of Nano Nagle and the Presentation Sisters.
As the school looks to the future, it remains dedicated to nurturing a learning environment that upholds the principles of faith, education, and social justice, continuing the vital work initiated 225 years ago. The event stands as a testament to the enduring impact of the Presentation tradition, which continues to shape the lives of young people in Kilkenny and beyond.
