Rathkeale Together Nominated for €1,500 in National Christmas Competition
Rathkeale Together, a community-focused organization in Ireland, has been nominated for The BIG Christmas Giveback, a national competition that highlights local heroes. The initiative offers a chance to win €1,000 in Limerick Gift Cards, with an additional €500 gift card awarded to one nominator. This competition aims to celebrate community contributions and support local businesses, particularly during the festive season.
Rathkeale Together has been active for over a decade, facilitating various community programs including a women’s group, a men’s shed, bereavement support, and children’s camps. The organization also organizes events such as St. Patrick’s Day, Halloween, and Christmas parades. Collaborations with the University of Limerick and other educational institutions provide further learning opportunities for the community.
Valerie Foley, a representative from Rathkeale Together, emphasized the organization’s mission: “We were set up 10 years ago to promote cohesion, bringing sections of the community together, such as settled and traveller communities, and men, women, and children. We make a difference in a positive way.” This focus on inclusivity has played a crucial role in fostering a sense of belonging among local residents.
The Limerick Gift Card is a collaborative effort between Limerick City and County Council and Limerick Chamber, designed to support local businesses. Since its launch, over €150,000 worth of gift cards have been sold, and more than 180 businesses now accept the card. Available as a physical card or an e-card for digital wallets, it can be used across Limerick and surrounding towns, encouraging residents to shop locally.
Sean Golden, Chief Economist and Director of Policy at Limerick Chamber, urged the community to participate in The BIG Christmas Giveback, stating, “Take a moment to nominate your chosen individual or organization.” Nominations are open until November 28 and can be submitted at lovelocalwin.ie.
This initiative not only recognizes the contributions of local organizations like Rathkeale Together but also encourages community engagement and support for local businesses, especially during the holiday season.
