Women’s Collective Ireland Celebrates Community at New Year Lunch
A vibrant gathering of women took place at the Bluestack Centre in Drimarone, Ireland, marking the launch of the 2026 programme of activities for the Women’s Collective Ireland–Donegal. The event, held on January 22, 2026, was a New Year Celebration Lunch and drew a total of 66 participants. It was originally scheduled for earlier in the month but was postponed due to adverse weather conditions.
The celebration was inspired by Nollaig na mBan, or Women’s Little Christmas, traditionally observed on January 6. It served as a joyful reflection of community spirit and empowerment, offering a warm and inclusive atmosphere for attendees. Feedback from the event highlighted its significance, with many women expressing a sense of belonging and connection.
“This event beautifully showcased community spirit, empowerment, and belonging,” said Danielle Bonner, Project Coordinator at Women’s Collective Ireland–Donegal. Participants echoed this sentiment, sharing their experiences of the afternoon.
One attendee described the event as “a beautiful gathering of women enjoying good food, conversation, and music.” Another participant noted, “The food was lovely, and the staff were very friendly and helpful. I felt like a child again getting a present,” referring to the special visit from Mrs. Claus. She added, “The positive affirmations on the makeup bag are lovely and inspirational.”
The success of the gathering was evident in the interactions and connections formed. “I met some lovely ladies, and we’ve already exchanged numbers and plan to meet again,” remarked another woman, emphasizing the event’s role in fostering new friendships.
The afternoon included lively elements such as dancing, led by Geraldine Thomas and Grace O’Callaghan, and a joyful sing-along facilitated by Bernie Canney. The special appearance of Mrs. Claus, facilitated by Caroline Breslin, added a delightful touch to the celebration, making the event memorable.
The Women’s Collective Ireland–Donegal expressed gratitude to the local businesses and community members who contributed to the event. Donations for the raffle prizes came from various local establishments, including Harvey’s Point Hotel, Allcare Pharmacy in Donegal Town, and Christina Irwin Photography, among others. Acknowledgment was also given to a generous act by Antoinette, who donated her raffle prize to the Little Blue Heroes Foundation.
Special thanks were directed towards RoseMary Ward and the staff at the Bluestack Centre for their efforts in ensuring the day went smoothly and for providing a warm welcome to all attendees.
The event highlighted the importance of community connection and support among women. The Women’s Collective Ireland–Donegal is dedicated to promoting women’s equality and human rights through various activities and initiatives. Throughout 2026, the organization plans to offer a range of workshops and courses aimed at empowering women across Donegal.
