Pope Leo XIV Urges Global Truce on Christmas Day Amid Ongoing Conflict

Pope Leo XIV has issued a heartfelt call for a global truce on Christmas Day, expressing deep disappointment over Russia’s apparent rejection of this request. Speaking from his residence in Castel Gandolfo, located near Rome, the Pope urged all people of goodwill to observe a day of peace, particularly on the occasion of the birth of Jesus Christ.

In his statement, Pope Leo noted, “Among the things that cause me great sadness is the fact that Russia has apparently rejected a request for a truce.” The Pope’s appeal comes in the context of ongoing hostilities, particularly following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.
