Carlos Alcaraz Parts Ways with Coach Juan Carlos Ferrero
Carlos Alcaraz has made the unexpected decision to part ways with his long-time coach, Juan Carlos Ferrero. The announcement comes after a remarkable season in which the 22-year-old Spanish tennis player won both the French Open and US Open, among a total of eight titles, concluding the year ranked number one in the world.
Ferrero, a former world number one and 2003 French Open champion, has been instrumental in Alcaraz’s rise in professional tennis since the player turned pro. Their partnership garnered significant recognition, including Ferrero receiving the ATP’s Coach of the Year award.
In a heartfelt message on social media, Alcaraz expressed his gratitude, stating, “It’s very difficult for me to write this post… After more than seven years together, Juanki and I have decided to end our time together as coach and player.” He reflected on their journey, saying, “Thank you for turning my childhood dreams into reality. We started this journey when I was just a kid, and throughout this time you’ve accompanied me on an incredible adventure.”
Alcaraz emphasized the significance of their achievements, noting, “We reached the top, and I feel that if our sporting paths had to diverge, it should be from up there.” He acknowledged the upcoming changes, saying, “Now, a time of change is upon us both, new adventures and new projects. But I’m certain that we’ll face them in the right way, giving our best, as we always have.”
Ferrero also took to social media to share his sentiments, stating, “Today is a difficult day. One of those when it’s hard to find the right words. Saying goodbye is never easy, especially when there are so many shared experiences behind it.” He expressed his appreciation for Alcaraz’s trust and work ethic, wishing him success in both his professional and personal life.
Despite the split, Alcaraz will continue to work with another Spanish coach, Samuel Lopez, who previously coached Ferrero. The collaboration with Lopez suggests that Alcaraz intends to maintain a strong support system as he navigates the next phase of his career.
This transition marks a significant moment in the world of tennis, as Alcaraz prepares to build on his recent successes and face new challenges without the guidance of Ferrero. The tennis community will be watching closely to see how this change influences Alcaraz’s future performances on the court.
