Celtic’s Wilfried Nancy Pushes for Improvement Despite Winning Streak
Celtic manager Wilfried Nancy is determined to push his team for further improvement, even as they edge closer to the top of the Scottish Premiership. The Glasgow club can equal leaders Hearts on points if they secure a victory against Motherwell at Fir Park on Tuesday, following a recent 4-2 win against Livingston.
After experiencing a challenging start to his tenure with four consecutive losses, Nancy has led the team to a series of victories. Despite this progress, he stressed the need for continued development, emphasizing that conceding 13 goals since taking over from caretaker manager Martin O’Neill remains a concern.
Nancy articulated his thoughts on the upcoming match, stating, “If we win the game and this is the situation, yes, for sure we’re going to be happy. But let’s prepare for the game, let’s have a good game. Let’s maximize our chance to win the game.” His focus remains on enhancing the team’s performance rather than solely achieving a temporary position at the top of the table.
He continued, “The idea is to keep the momentum. The idea is to improve regarding the game that we had on Saturday. To be able to get better.” This commitment to ongoing improvement reflects Nancy’s approach as he challenges his players to maintain high standards while also offering support.
Celtic previously defeated Motherwell 3-2 at Parkhead in October, thanks to a last-minute header from Daizen Maeda. Motherwell, under the management of Jens Berthel Askou, faced a narrow defeat against Rangers last Saturday, ending a ten-game unbeaten run in the league.
As they prepare for the match, Nancy expressed his respect for Motherwell’s style of play, noting, “I expect a good game, because I have seen them play and it’s a team that likes to play. It’s going to be a bit different, I would say.” He acknowledged the physicality of the opposition while also recognizing their ability to implement a more dynamic style under their current coach.
Nancy’s comments reflect a proactive mindset as he gears up for a crucial fixture in the Premiership. With an eye on both immediate performance and long-term development, he aims to foster a winning culture at Celtic, emphasizing the importance of continual growth throughout the season.
