Evan Ferguson’s future with AS Roma appears secure following recent performances and comments from club officials. The young striker, who has faced challenges since joining the Italian side, has begun to regain form, dispelling any notions of a premature return to Brighton & Hove Albion.

Ferguson made headlines earlier this year when he transferred to Roma, where he initially impressed during pre-season. However, his transition to competitive matches presented difficulties. The Republic of Ireland international went scoreless in his first 11 appearances, coinciding with a lack of goal production from the team. Manager Gian Piero Gasperini publicly addressed the team’s offensive struggles, singling out Ferguson and teammate Artem Dovbyk for their inability to convert chances.

In a welcome turn of events, Ferguson broke his scoring drought last month, netting a goal after coming off the bench against Cremonense, a team featuring Jamie Vardy. His resurgence continued with a standout performance in a 3-0 victory over Celtic in Glasgow, where he scored twice. This display earned him much-needed recognition from Gasperini, who opted to start Ferguson in the following match against Como.

Ferguson played the full 90 minutes in that encounter, which ended in a 0-0 draw. Fans responded positively, voting him Roma’s Man of the Match on social media platform X. This recent resurgence has led many to speculate about his future, particularly regarding a potential return to Brighton, but the club’s officials have swiftly dismissed such rumors.

Ricky Massara, Roma’s Director of Football, addressed Ferguson’s situation in an interview with Corriere dello Sport. He stated, “I’ve never heard of this possibility,” referring to a return to Brighton. Massara praised Ferguson’s contributions, highlighting that he has recorded three goals in his last five matches. He emphasized the importance of consistency for the young player, stating, “Evan is doing well, he’s returning to the levels we know. We’re pleased with what Ferguson is doing. All these rumours were speculation that didn’t match our intentions.”

As Ferguson continues to develop in Rome, the focus remains on his ability to maintain momentum and further contribute to AS Roma’s success in the ongoing season. His recent performances suggest a promising future ahead, both for him individually and for the club.
