Clonskeagh Mosque Reopens After Turmoil, New Imam System Introduced

UPDATE: The Islamic Cultural Centre of Ireland (ICCI) has reopened today following a significant internal dispute and reorganization. This reopening comes amid ongoing investigations into alleged financial irregularities and links to the Muslim Brotherhood.

Authorities have confirmed that there are currently no plans to install a permanent imam, instead opting for a rotating system to ensure diverse leadership.

Reports from Gardaí indicate ongoing investigations into financial irregularities, with concerns that up to €1 million may have been sent abroad each year as charitable donations. These issues have raised alarms within the community and prompted investigations into the management of the centre, particularly regarding donations for causes such as Gaza.

The Al Maktoum Foundation’s chairman, Muhammad Dahi, along with director Dr. Zahid Jamil, took immediate action by appointing an auditor to probe these claims. Tensions escalated during parent meetings concerning the centre’s Koranic school, leading to security concerns and the eventual closure of the school until further notice.

Dr. Jamil emphasized the need for transparency and community engagement, stating, “We hope the reorganized ICCI will nurture unity among Muslims and foster positive engagement with wider society.” His statements reflect a renewed commitment to accountability and service.
