Community Celebrates Retirement of Esteemed Garda Noelle Curran
Colleagues and community members gathered in Thomastown to celebrate the retirement of Noelle Curran, a beloved member of An Garda Síochána, following her distinguished career spanning more than 25 years. Curran, who transitioned from a career in banking in Cavan to the police force in 1994, received heartfelt tributes from those she served alongside and supported in the community.
After beginning her service in various stations in Dublin, Curran was transferred to Thomastown in 1998, where she became a well-known figure in the area. Last Friday, she was honored with a warm farewell at the Community Hall, a gathering that featured presentations, speeches, laughter, and a sense of camaraderie.
Throughout her career, Curran exemplified a commitment to fairness, professionalism, and compassion. A spokesperson for An Garda Síochána remarked, “Noelle displayed a fairness, calmness, professionalism and had a depth of kindness and empathy in her way of dealing with people.” Her ability to connect with individuals during challenging times, along with her dedication to local sports, made her an integral part of the community.
Curran played a significant role in establishing a successful ladies’ football club in Thomastown during the 2004/05 season. She also contributed to local soccer, leading the Thomastown ladies’ team to victory in both the Kilkenny league and cup finals. Her involvement extended to being the Public Relations Officer for Kilkenny Ladies Football at the County Board.
In 2007, Curran achieved notable success as a goalkeeper, winning a Junior All-Ireland Gaelic football medal with Kilkenny. This accomplishment earned her the Coiste Siamsa award for the lady’s footballer of the year, highlighting her athletic prowess and community contributions.
Reflecting on her career, the spokesperson noted, “Noelle was an exceptional garda, an excellent, hard-working colleague and a friend to any person that was lucky enough to connect with her.” As she embarks on this new chapter, Curran looks forward to spending quality time with her family, including her husband, Mick, and daughter, Ciara. She also plans to indulge in her passions for travel and sports, surrounded by a wide circle of friends and family.
The community of Thomastown bids farewell to a dedicated officer whose legacy of service and kindness will be remembered for years to come.
