URGENT UPDATE: The highly anticipated EMPOWER HER portrait exhibition showcasing trailblazing women has officially launched at Ulster University’s Magee campus in Derry~Londonderry. This powerful exhibition, which opened today, highlights the remarkable achievements of 54 women from diverse backgrounds, ages 19 to 95, and is set to inspire countless others.

Officials at Ulster University are emphasizing their commitment to equality, diversity, and inclusion through this exhibition. Provost of Ulster University’s Derry campus stated, “Exhibitions like EMPOWER HER remind us of our responsibility to support women’s advancement in tangible, meaningful ways.” The exhibition will run until March 15, inviting the public to engage with this significant collection.

The exhibition features portraits of women whose resilience and leadership have broken barriers and set new standards for future generations. Linda Hanlon, the exhibition author, alongside Maria McGrane, expressed, “This city carries a rich and complex history shaped by resilience and strength – qualities reflected in the 54 women portrayed.”

The launch event also included powerful testimonies from influential women connected to the university, including Professor Laura Bradley-McCauley, a leading figure in inclusive entrepreneurship, and Emily Roberts, President of the UU Students’ Union, who is known for her work on tackling violence against women and girls.

Hanlon further noted that bringing these stories into a university setting is especially impactful, serving as a reminder to students—particularly young women—that “leadership, courage, and impact are not distant ideals, but real and attainable paths.”

As we approach International Women’s Day, this exhibition stands as a celebration of female achievement and an invitation to the next generation to step forward and shape the future. The EMPOWER HER exhibition is currently located on the first floor of the Magee Library and promises to be a transformative experience for all who attend.
